After 3 years of leading Toyota Canada, CEO Yoichi Tomihara is heading to a senior post at Toyota’s European operations. Replacing Tomihara will be Seiji Ichii.

Ichii has been with Toyota for over 30 years and has held various roles in the company’s global operations.

Tomihara’s tenure at Toyota Canada started in 2007. In 2008 the company sold a record 224,158 vehicles across the country. But Toyota’s recent recalls and a production slowdown due to the earthquake in Japan put downward pressure on sales. As of November sales at Toyota Canada were just shy of 150,000 units. CEO’s at Canadian automotive subsidiaries are often on a 3-5 year rotation so, while on the earlier side, the change isn’t too surprising.

Welcome to Canada Ichii-san.
